To the cities by the sea!

Ho Chi Minh, its time to say goodbye.  Phillip is going to get some new shoes and another storage rack for my laptop bag!  Although there are mechanics at just about every 200 meters (they literally have mechanics on street corners with a box of tools and a portable gas air pump – no shop!), I dont want to hit the long road with a front tire that is full of cracks, so safety first – get a new tire!  All in under and hour – and for $30, I get a new tire, a new rack and a throttle adjustment.  It feels like a lot more however when you

Vietnam! Motorbikes! Adventure?

Well the time has come to see Vietnam! An idea starts with a spark, the spark grows to a fire.  Travelling is the same way, it starts with an idea and things happen from there!  Being that this trip was unplanned for the most part and a random adventure, why not make it more random by buying a motorbike and travelling a country on that bike!  My great idea led me to some amazing experiences and some dangerous situations at the same time! Upon arriving in Vietnam, I set out to buy a motorbike, my 3rd day in the country I ran across a bike and bought it!  I then

Not exactly China!

Hong Kong, Pearl of the Orient, City of Life, Asia’s World City – so many names for one city.  A large busy city with impeccable public transportation and quite possibly one of the most vertical cities built.  The center of trade of hundreds of years, a major harbor, and history dating back to nearly 40,000 years ago, and people from every part of the world, Hong Kong is most definitely a sight to see. First off, before I can even get to Hong Kong I have to leave Vietnam.  Up to this point I have not had any issues on my trip, but now as I am going through Vietnam’s immigration to

Dragons to Dungeons

With as nice as Halong Bay is, it is time to say goodbye and be onwards to Vietnam’s capitol of Hanoi.  Located on the Northern side of the country it used to be separate from the south before the end of the Vietnam war.  Once the American troops pulled out and the north descended upon Saigon (Ho Chi Minh), the separation was cut and the two were merged and reunited to be one country. The road from Halong to Hanoi is pretty boring…not much to see besides other vehicles and small towns.  I saw a few more dog/cat meat restaurants but did not feel the urge to stop and investigate

A race against the sun!

From the beaches to the mountains. From the water to the trees.  From wet to, well, more wet! Natural tunnels underground, created by water and millions of years – Caves.  Caves are stunning natural creations and quite a site to see.  Some of the most spectacular views are found here and also is home to some of the biggest and longest caves ever found. Exploring Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park (Location Link) can easily take weeks to see all it has to offer. In a day I tried to see two of the more popular locations – Phong Nha Cave and Thiên Đường Cave (Paradise Cave).  Phong Nha cave is the more

Threaded!

Welcome to Hoi An, considered by some to be the tailoring capitol of the world.  An old market, a Japanese Covered bridge, a very busy harbor in the 16th through 18th century, and tailor shops – everywhere.  Hoi An is a beautiful city, it has beautiful beaches with clear waters, wonderful people and great food.  It is however full of tourists due to the fact that you can have custom made clothing done here for cheap!  A full suit – from cashmere/wool mix costs a mere $80, a dress shirt to go with it – $15, all made to size!  Granted these prices I’m quoting are the lower prices of the area,

Mud and water

Nha Trang is a Russian hangout.  Most of the signs are in Vietnamese, English and Russian.  Everywhere you turn, you run into another one!  This is a big resort town where people come and just hang out and get pampered – Especially Russians.  To stay busy, hang out at the beach or a better idea – go to the mud baths!  Yes, the wonderful treatment of mud and mineralized water! For as little as $6 USD you can play in the mud baths and have all the fun you want! The Thap Ba Spa is one of the many places to go and enjoy this mud bath.  Skip all the

Do I turn left or right? I’ll go straight!

The more time spent in Ho Chi Minh, the bigger it gets!  Every day leads to a new find, a new place, a new experience.  From the countries history, to the markets, grocery stores, street vendors, mosques and restaurants of all kinds, there is always something to do.  The best way that I like to see a city is to drive around – randomly – and see where the road leads. I ran across a couple mosques today – the biggest one was the Saigon Central Mosque (Masjid Musulman) – close to downtown.  Like most of the mosques here, they are full of arches, domes, intricate designs and they all are painted

Riding and Crawling. Life underground!

Ho Chi Minh/Saigon.  Vietnam.  Motor bikes. Smiles. Cant say much more about Ho Chi Minh City besides this.  Welcome to Vietnam!  This is a wonderful country! People are so nice, smiles everywhere, always a helping hand!  A truly vibrant, growing and fun city. Ho Chi Minh – Landing The first thing you notice are all the motorbikes.  There are thousands of them – they are everywhere – this is truly the land of motorbikes.  Zip down the road, go between cars and trucks, weave around pedestrians, its organized madness!  You have to be an extremely defensive driver here, always have your “A-game”!  Seeing all this excitement, I wanted to be

From Temples to Tigers

Cambodia is behind me, here comes Thailand!  Cambodia is a beautiful country – I still have a lot to see in the country, I did not have enough time to really see it all.  I spent my time only in and around Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, the capitol, was left, plus all around the rest of the country – I have a reason to return! Off to Bangkok, Thailand for a couple days! A vibrant and lively city known as being glorious as if created by angels, the administration center, beautiful temples and glittering palaces, the capitol of Thailand.  It is definitley the city of smiles as well!  Anywhere you
